For more than thirty years I have been working with books and paper.
What began with a chance discovery in 1994 — an art book in which the book itself was the artwork — grew into a lasting passion: making books and sharing that love with others.

What’s in a name…
“Tittel” — with a double T — means: the dot on the “i”.
“Around books” refers to everything I do: binding, making, reading… and paper.
Looking back, the name almost feels prophetic.
Years later, I created my film Perfect measuring and cutting without pencil marks — where that same attention to precision is at the core.
After that discovery, I trained in Hand Bookbinding, Book Restoration
and Paper Restoration, learning the craft and its techniques.
But coming from a background of artists and teachers, I consciously chose my own path.
In 2001 I started teaching Creative Bookbinding.
I wanted to give artists, photographers, graphic designers and paper lovers
the opportunity to turn their work into books — without first having to complete
a full traditional training.
At that time, this approach was new. I was a pioneer.
It grew into a successful course, and today this way of working
is taught in other places as well.
For me, bookbinding is not only about technique.
It is about content, creativity and the joy of making.
I don’t just want to teach a binding — I want to give people confidence in their own creativity. To guide them,
let them explore, experiment and grow.
Over the years, I have seen students find their own path.
This has led to various projects and collectives: Boekbindcollectief 14x14, Grensland, Boekbindcollectief Sabi Wabi — where beautiful, finely finished books are created.
For me, creativity and precision go hand in hand.
Many creative bookbinders work without professional cutting machines — and glue-free bindings often cannot be trimmed afterwards. So starting perfectly is essential.
From that need, I gradually developed my own measuring and cutting method, using a knife and ruler.
The technique grew out of the questions and challenges of my students.
It is simple, logical, fast, and works with materials that are usually already available in the studio.
